DESIGN & COLOUR STORY
Humility is so elusive because if you think you have it; you do not. And even if you acknowledge that you are prideful and work to heal the gap between that energy and towards humility; you still do not have it. It's one of the hardest teachings for us; and so it felt fitting to start here.
One way to think about humility is its relationship with energy. In her book Emergent Strategies, Adrienne Maree Brown says "What we pay attention to grows". How could this connect to cycles or systems we might each be trying to break away from or transmute. Could it be that sometimes the focus of breaking a cycle ensures you repeat it? I wonder if this is a place where humility can come to play? How can we call on the teaching & gift of humility to support us in ways to break these cycles in a good way. In a practical sense I think about the Indian Act and how it is viewed as a racist and extinguishing document (meaning it's goal is to eliminate Indigenous people). Many of our people agree with this; but could the heavy attention on wanting to 'get rid' of the Indian Act actually open up unfortunate opportunities to simply repackage and repeat its agenda to each other? We cannot say forsure. But maybe the gift of Humility has something to teach us within these narratives. What does humility mean to you?
